Emma’s father committed suicide by drinking poison. Following this tragedy, Emma’s mother had a mental breakdown and ran away, abandoning Emma and her baby brother. The children were taken to live with their grandmother, who was very poor, and worked in the field to try and earn money to feed the kids. Emma’s grandmother would lock her and her brother in the mud house, alone, all day. Emma, a child herself, had to care for her infant brother. We took Emma into our home in April of 2010. She is a precious and loving child who is always sharing her hugs.
